PUPPPs Relief Mission

PUPPPs is my thing.
I don't really want it to be my thing, but after having it with ALL of my pregnancies, it's my thing. I am a mom of 4 little girls, and I'm pregnant with my fifth sweet, tiny person. There are so many women out there suffering from PUPPPs and very few places dedicated to information about PUPPPs. My goal is to provide a one-stop-shop for information and conversation about this horrid rash.

Hang in there!

I know most days with PUPPPs are too much. Too much itching. Too many tears. Too many weird remedies.

But I want to add one more thought to that mess.

There is a baby coming soon! And that little person is waiting to meet you! To be held in your arms. To get to know how you smell. To hear your heart beating from the outside. Waiting to share their first smile. Waiting to grab your pinky finger and hold on tight.

And soon, that little person will grow. You will love them more each day. They are with you for the long run. Also, each day (eventually), the memory of your rash will fade a little bit. It really will. The trauma will be in the past.

This is my little chubby lump of love...

She is 7 months old now! That is as long as I had PUPPPs in her pregnancy! I can tell you that the last 7 months went by much faster than the first!

If you've spent many desperate nights online searching blogs and forums for PUPPPs info, you're probably familiar with my PUPPPs stories (all FOUR of them!). But I would like to hear some of yours!

If you have a tidbit of encouragement for other suffering moms, please leave a comment for them.

If you're interested in doing a guest post, please email me at pupppsmom@gmail.com. Your story will be read by hundreds of suffering moms every week! It's so helpful to hear from people who have made it to the other side when you're in the middle of it.

Thanks, ladies!

  1. What a great, helpful site! This is my fourth time getting the PUPPPs rash. Yes, that's right! The first time I got it after delivery. The 2nd and 3rd times were a bit less severe. And this time, it's severe like the first time. I bought the dandelion root capsules, grandpa's pine tar soap and the puppps soap/relief cream from (https://www.etsy.com/shop/CroneAndCrowSoaps). They are the original Rainier Soapworks after closing their business for a couple of years due to health problems.

I decided to create a survey to help others and to also hopefully help anyone ever deciding to research this in the future. If you and any other readers don't mind, I'd be delighted for you all to take it at: http://community.babycenter.com/post/a57700135/puppps_survey

    1. Thanks for the comment! You are the first person I've ever heard of that has had it 4 times like me! How are you holding up? Are the treatments working?

I'll be taking your survey for sure!

And I'm so glad the Ranier Soap People have started making soap again. I searched and searched for their soap during one of my pregnancies. If I ever get PUPPPs again, I'm ordering some to give it a try!

    2. Thank you for taking that survey! For some reason, I went on Baby Center today to check how it was coming along and they've removed the thread. I am not sure why. So that was frustrating!!!

So far, I've had the rash for two weeks with this pregnancy. I started the pine tar soap on Tuesday and it's helped it fade some but no enough yet. It stings really bad this go around too when I use it. I usually follow it up with lathering myself with coconut oil and standing in front of the fan. That helps a little. The soap from Rainier or rather Crone and Crowe soaps provides the greatest relief so far. I just received the dandelion root capsules yesterday and began taking them. I also drink a lot of lemon water as I heard it helps detox the liver as well. We shall see! I'll keep you updated.

    3. Boo for babycenter! Why would they remove such a helpful thread?! Frustrating.

I'm glad you're seeing some relief! I hope the dandelion root helps a lot like it did in the past!

  2. Thank you for creating and writing this blog, it really gave me hope reading it when I was up all night itching, crying and nursing all at once. I started using your recipe for the essential oil blend and I can see my rashes are starting to turn for the better and it really helped with the itching. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!!!

  3. Thank you for this blog. I have been trying to find relief for a few days now, thining it was just dry air and stretching of the skin. Now that Isee a rash developing, I have realized its Puppps.

This is my second stint, 3rd pregnancy.
my first pregnancy I got it after I gave birth to my daughter and I, too, was given the Steroid cream. After reading your post I wont be doing that while pregnant. And since I breast fed, that maybe the cause of my daughters sever diaper rashes she got.
My second pregnancy I didn't have Puppps. I only got to 21 weeks, So I don't think I was far enough along.
Now this one I got it at 32 weeks, just over a weks ago and I just realized yesterday what it is... :( So that has brought me to your blog looking for relief, I was hoping to find an oil remedy so Im glad it brought me to you.
I had been using coconut oil as my stretch mark preventative/Moisturizer through the whole pregnancy. but when I started itching fiercely, added Lavender to help with inflammation. That only relieved it long enough for me to fall back to sleep, only to wake up scratching again.
I'll be making your oil blend soon, minus some of the oils you used because I don't have them, but if needed I will get them. I have also used banana peel. it seems to have lightened my itch a bit, but not completely.
Once again thank you!. I'll pass this on to my other friends who have told me they had Puppps.

    1. Hi Kendra, thank you for telling your story! I'm really sorry to hear that it sounds like you have PUPPPs. When it gets to the point where it wakes you up at night, you start to lose your sanity a bit! Miserable! I really hope the oil blend helps you as much as it did me!

  4. Thank you! Yes, temporarily, when the rash heals up, my skin would be a bit of a funny color. But that disappeared within weeks or months.

  5. Hi! Thank you so much for writing this blog. This is my second pregnancy and I started getting itchy bumps at 12 weeks, just diagnosed with the full-blown rash at 16 weeks. I haven't slept much in two weeks. On the worst night I had to bury my face in the mattress and scream until the sensation became less than torture. (In retrospect, I had been overusing a prescription spray that bleached out my skin, and then I got in a hot salt bath. I know better now!) I didn't know how I would make it 20 more weeks with this, and I had some really dark thoughts. I just discovered your blog today. Actually, a friend found it, and made your oil blend for me. It has given me the most relief I've felt in weeks, and I finally have some hope that I can get through this. Thank you a million times! Wish me luck...

    1. Maura! Thank you so much for sharing your story! And I'm SO glad the oil blend is helping you! I remember those dark thoughts and those impossible nights. Absolute misery.

I haven't posted about this yet, but I'm actually 31 weeks pregnant with my 5th! The rash started about a week ago, but so far my oils are keeping it under control. It's only in one patch so far.

    2. Oh my goodness, congratulations and you are my hero! I can't imagine rolling the dice again with this rash and have already decided that if I have to get another c section, I'm getting my tubes tied. I'm SOOO glad to hear that your oils are keeping things under control. I hope it continues. Another thing that has helped me (not as much as the oils) has been a spray bottle with just crushed up Benadryl tablets in water- if you (or anyone else) wants to try something else! Congratulations and I hope your time with the rash goes quickly!
